Betty LaRue (Olmsted) Bayles, 101 of Harpursville died Sun. Feb. 22, 2026.  She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd E. Bayles and especially proud to be the daughter of W. A. (Pearl) Olmsted, for whom the elementary school is named.

She is survived by her children and their families, Margaret L. & Steven L. Lake, Harpursville, Thomas L. & Barbara J. Bayles, Lancaster, PA, Elizabeth A. Larson, Willow Spring, NC, 11 grandchildren, Benjamin, Rebecca, Sarah, Rachel, Kristen, Timothy, Katherine, Victoria, Daniel, Brandon & Brooke, several great grandchildren

She was a retired music teacher at HCS, member of the Harpursville United Methodist Church, member of Eastern Broome Senior Citizens, Binghamton Community Orchestra playing violin until age 94, Onaquaga Historical Society, and many other organizations.

Funeral Services will be held at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home 69-71 Maple Street Harpursville on Thurs. at 4 p.m.  The family will receive friends at the Osterhoudt-Madden Funeral Home on Thurs. from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to service.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rochester at the convenience of the family.  Donations in Betty’s honor are requested to go to the Alumni Assoc. of Harpursville High School and Binghamton Community Orchestra.
